Stephen D. Moses (1950 – 2024)

Stephen Moses was born in 1950 in the North East of England. He studied interior design and photography before going on to study Fine Art at Manchester Polytechnic, gaining a B.A Honours Degree. He then went on to do a Masters in Media & Contextual Studies at the University of Sunderland.

He co-founded and delivered an Art & Design Access to H.E Course at Stockton Further Education College, for adult students who had not had this opportunity given to them previously. His creative and challenging briefs greatly stimulated and inspired his students, giving them the skills and self-belief to go on to Higher Education.

Steve was a prolific artist from a young age, informed and stimulated by a wide range of art, music, literature, theatre and philosophy. Early on he was influenced by art movements such as Dada, Surrealism and the Bauhaus – and artists including Marcel Duchamp, Paul Klee and Francis Bacon. Steve was an avid reader with multifarious interests and in latter years was much influenced by the writings of creative thinkers Marshall McLuhan, Jaques Derrida, Michel Foucault and Roland Barthes.
